Inside our 32 bedroom St Catherine’s home, every part of the journey has been considered, and always with dementia care at the heart of all the decision making. Our home is a heady mix of both form and function, bringing cutting edge research and technology to the fore.

Dementia friendly environment.

  • In the research and development phase of delivering St Catherine’s, we worked closely with pioneers in the field of dementia, including a world renowned dementia team from the University of Sterling, to make sure that every single aspect of the environment was dementia friendly.

As you enter our home, our wayfinding signage will guide and navigate you and our residents with ease, helping those with dementia move from space to space in a calming, reassuring way.

And each of these spaces provides a safe haven and a real sense of community. Spaces that promote connection with ourself, others and the environment - from our purpose built high tech sensory room and our award winning sensory gardens, to our communal cinema room and interactive market square.

Our home also boasts a full state of the art Circadian lighting system, which has been scientifically proven to improve sleep patterns, moods, engagement and dramatically reduces the risk of falls.

These are just some of the many reasons why St Catherine’s is firmly at the forefront of dementia care.

A specialised
level of care.

With every resident, comes different needs, different levels and progression of dementia. Our team work together with families and loved ones as well as the residents themselves to work out what individual needs they have.

  • However, our approach and the environment we provide here at St Catherine’s not only promotes as much independence, choice and freedom as possible for our residents, but a hub of knowledge and support for their loved ones too.

We collaborate with our friends at local charity ‘Dementia Forward’, who provide extra support for our residents network of family and loved ones, with regular get togethers to offer advice and provide a space to share and discuss dementia with like minded people who understand how difficult the journey can be.

We also have an extensive recreation programme at St Catherine’s, which creates and encourages a thriving and positive environment.

Our Lifestyle Coordinators plan each day, utilising the extensive range of dementia specialist facilities in the home for mental and physical stimulus, including our indoor garden experience, interactive cycling experience or our sensory room and garden.

On top of that, we have regular visits from entertainers and pet therapy, to arts and crafts and exercise therapy specialists. We also explore our local region with regular day trips out on the minibus too.

Now that is living life to the full.

We’re with you every step of the way.

Considering care options for yourself or a loved one can feel overwhelming at times and it’s hard to know where to start, but whatever stage you or a loved one is at; We’re here for you.

  • Whether you’re in need of initial advice about dementia, impartial guidance, deciding whether care is needed just yet, or welcoming a new resident to St Catherine’s, our responsibility to be there for you every step of the way is real.

As soon as contact is made with us here, we consider ourselves as part of the journey too. We have a deep and intrinsic understanding of how dementia can deeply affect not only the person living with it, but the lives of families and loved ones too, which is why we’re here for your entire support network also.

As a family-run business, we understand more than most, that one of the key ingredients needed to maintain a happy and friendly environment is good, honest and open communication.

So, for those who choose St Catherine’s for care, we have a whole raft of ways in which we keep family members and loved ones completely in the loop; including regular newsletters, our award-winning quarterly magazine the Wellburn Post, the ‘Life’ section on our website and through our social media channels.

We host regular Residents and Family meetings which offer a safe space to speak openly about shared or differing experiences and to discuss any queries together. We actively encourage families and loved ones to participate, and we will strive to respond and shape how we do things based on the feedback received during these meetings.

Every single loved one of our residents is a valued part of the journey and has an important part to play in not only how we tailor our care for their loved one, but how we go about the day to day running of the home. We encourage family members to actively participate in the care planning process, share insights and engage in open communications with our team.

For those still undecided about care, we hold regular community meetings in our home, welcoming those who might benefit from discussing their experiences with others who are going through similar situations, as well as advice offered by dementia specialist team.
